You would think I might be one of those wooly creatures who hole away in a cozy warm nest for weeks in the deepest part of winter (for we northern hemispherians), but no, the truth is that I've masochistically not allowed myself to visit Vox for a few weeks now, until I get some work caught up. (Not normally puritanical, but it [life+work] had gotten a bit, er, unkempt.)
So I'm alive and just itching to prowl around. Speaking of prowling around (a quick aside...), as you may know, we lost one of our two kitties about a month ago and now are considering adding some wee kittens (as yet unspotted and unobtained) to the household. But the worry: will our senior (11 yrs. old) be (a) perky with interest piqued or (b) neurotic and feeling confused at such an addition. They were a singularly unsociable (to other cats) pair as they did not venture outside except to the back garden and then under supervision. Thanks for all helpful musings.
As I close, I pose the question: Ever considered constructing a trebuchet?
The kitty gods knew what we did not. I pulled out my vidcam on xmas to test (before going to family thing at which I took no pictures) but why did I choose the Big Fella as subject? The kitty gods knew that this would be a valued gift.
Of course, he was not feeling his best--not like in the many years of great days I treasure. He was mild and affectionate and is greatly missed. He left us yesterday.
However, the Big Fella has been touchy about his food for the past 6+ months and his haematoma has reappeared (too soon after the surgery to have it drained) and I'm worried we'll have to take him back in to see the very nice doctors, which makes him just a wreck: he's such a tough guy, but falls apart whenever we go out (which is infrequent); been that way since he was a wee kitten.
The past week or so he's gotten worse about eating (I'm grasping, post-Googling, at Irritable Bowel Disorder/Disease) and now has abandoned the dry food (which was the only meaty thing he'd touch) for the exclusive realm of dairy (organic cows milk and mild cheddar cheese bits).
So even though I earnestly promised him that we'd never subject him to another Trip Outside, I'm afraid that's in the cards.
